HEART OF THE MATTER When a police detective approaches Alastair Stone to consult on a grisly occult-related murder, he initially considers it nothing more than an intriguing puzzle to fill a few dull late-summer hours. But then the detective becomes a victim, and the murderer begins taunting Stone, daring him to discover the truth before more of his friends join the list of targets. As he delves deeper into the case, Stone soon learns that the murderer isn't human—and has committed similar crimes in the past. Why has it resurfaced again after all these years, and how can Stone stop something that can move without a trace? Aided by a devout young woman with secrets of her own, an elderly researcher, and a cat with a bizarre connection to one of the victims, Stone must call up new depths of courage as he tracks the killer to its horrific lair. But when he finds it, will he be strong enough to destroy it?

Really enjoyed this book.

I lucked into this series, having met the author at a convention. At first, it felt over-familiar, relying on many of the genre tropes. But it soon took off, and then I was hooked. Alastair Stone is interesting, engaging and a good guy (and magician). This is just as well because after the first few books, the other characters come and go. In the first few books, Jason and Verity, siblings who might be Stone's closest friends, play a large role... but then they peel off into their own lives. This book introduces another character, Grace, who has a deep religious faith, strong powers, and her abuelita from whom she might have inherited her powers. Hope to see more of her in subsequent books.

A new mystery. An ancient stone box with an angelic dialect inscribed on it.. Gristly gruesome murders.. Demonic activity.. And an orphaned kitty.. Yes, Stone has his hands full once again.
Get your copy today! Get the entire series if you haven't already read it! You won't be disappointed..
With each book, Stone, as a character, is getting much stronger and more complete. I'll admit to missing Jason and Verity as more than footnotes at the end, as well as some of those characters in England. However, with the introduction of Grace, I hope to see Stone getting back to mentoring as well as teaching. Very strong continuation.
The newest Alastair Stone book is, in my humble opinion, the best one yet! I couldn't put it down. This one I really loved. In this sequel Stone seemed so much more powerful than usual. Sure, he almost dies, but it wouldn't be fun if he just skated through without losing most of his nine lives, now, right? His newest foe is Really nasty and powerful, and well, I couldn't stop reading. Keep 'm coming, Ms. King! A really good read, indeed.
This takes Alastair in a somewhat different direction, adding religion in the form of Grace Ruiz. The book is longer than the previous ones in the series, but it kept my interest throughout the entire book. While I did miss the interaction with Jason and Verify, the story worked quite well as is. Looking forward to the next one.
Alistair is back at work battling demons and finding new friends in the least expected places. This as another "can't put it down " adventures in this series. I have read it all today and it's 3 am. I love a book that grabs you and doesn't let go. I also like that it isn't all about a romance. It's nice to have characters that have real individuality and can stand on their own. These characters feel like family and the stories are great. I can't wait for the next one.
I'm addicted to this entire series. Eagerly awaiting the future stories. I'm not quick to review books because I don't have the patience to spell out long detailed accounts. I can only say that I LOVE them all, and they keep getting better and better. The last several books have had minor grammatical errors that I did not find in the first books and I tend to watch for this sort of thing, or rather 'notice' them would be a better expression. I'm sure it's because her Stone stories have been in such demand that she is cranking them out quickly. I'm not complaining by any stretch of the imagination. Minor typos I can handle much better than withdrawal from this intriguing series of books. Awaiting her promised release coming in November of 2017.
Infernal Heart is, so far, the best book in the whole Alastair Stone Chronicles, in my opinion. I first started reading these on a lark, waiting for the next Dresden novel to come out (and still waiting). I was immediately pulled into the interesting characters, great stories, and familiar yet not predictable take on how magic operates in this universe.

Each book kept me throughly entertained on my daily two-hour commute to work each day, and this one was no different (though I found myself reading it at night as well because I could not wait until the next morning train ride for the story to continue).

I'm loving the introduction of new characters, and how Alastair is growing as a person and learning from his mistakes.

Great series, and this one really knocked it out of the park. Can't wait for the next one this Summer.

And if you haven't read any of these yet, do so, you won't be disappointed.
